RESIDENTS have hit out at bins overflowing with waste cooking fat outside the Lazzio Pizza and Kebab House in Redditch.
The takeaway on the corner of Glover Street and Marsden Road has consistently been reported by residents to have issues with rubbish disposal and on their behalf County Councillor Robin Lunn (Lab, Redditch North) is calling for business to change its habits.
“We just want them to deal with their waste in an appropriate way. We’ve had numerous complaints about the waste from this takeaway shop, about fat from the bins oozing out onto the pavement and mops and brushes being left out on the street caked with fat,” said Coun Lunn.
“I’ve been down there and spoken to them myself and the environment agency have been to investigate, but as yet, very little seems to have changed.
“It is obviously important that all food outlets in Redditch dispose of their food in an appropriate way and clearly this shop needs to cease leaving fat where it can attract vermin. This is not fair to the people of Glover Street or Marsden Road, and I hope this practice ceases immediately.”
The takeaway has a government food hygiene rating of two/
One resident said: “We are completely sick and tired of the constant mess outside the shop with overflowing waste bins and containers of waste fat and foodstuff, sometimes open left outside to spill on the pavements attracting vermin.
“This is the first sight that anybody visiting the street sees and it is disgusting.”
The takeaway’s manager Mr Mohammed said: “This is the first we’ve heard about this issue and as far as we are concerned, it should not be a problem. We are within legal guidelines and have now moved the fat barrel out of sight of the customers.
“It does not smell, it is fully covered and it is out of sight.”
