Retired Redditch paramedic turned author and illustrator for children's book

Redditch Editorial 30th Jul, 2023   0

A RETIRED Redditch based paramedic has written a children’s book to educate youngsters on bicycle safety and to offer first aid advice to parents.

David Byrne, 65, has written and illustrated The Adventures of Amby the Ambulance, a book which tells the story of Amby treating a little girl who has fallen off her bicycle.

David, who lives in Brockhill, Redditch has also included some valuable first aid advice on the blurb of the book for parents to follow when looking after a sick or injured child, prior to the arrival of an ambulance.

The author – who was a Redditch paramedic from 1995 until 2003 – has pledged to give £1 from the sale of every book to the National Ambulance Staff Charity.

David retired from his duties as a paramedic after he suffered a fractured shoulder during a bicycle accident.

David said: “I wanted to create an exciting story for children that has an important message about wearing helmets on bicycles.

“My accident inspired me in wanting to send this valuable message to children.

“I also hoped to give parents and children quick access to and an understanding of first aid.”
