Retired Redditch teacher puts pen to paper in new book series

A RETIRED Redditch school teacher has fulfilled a lifelong dream by writing a series of children’s novels aimed at helping the mental health of families.

The five-book series, entitled Tails of Bingo Dog, was written by Amanda Worley and follows several different adventures featuring a family and their pet.

In each tail-wagging tale, Bingo and his family try and draw on inner strength and demonstrate the value of keeping calm in a crisis.

Amanda, who retired from her job as a primary school teacher seven years ago, said she had always wanted to write a book but had never found the time to do so.

She decided now was finally the time and, after finding an illustrator in Sophie Williams, a young artist who just graduated from art college, she set about writing her stories.

Amanda decided to find a way to self-publish the books after finding it difficult to find a publisher.

She said: “I would love these books to act as a motivation for people to never give up on their dreams – there were many times I wanted to give up but I’m glad I preserved.

“Reading is good for our mental health so I have always wanted to promote that through my books.

“It would also be great if Bingo’s tales encourage children and adults to share time together.

“We all lead such busy lives and it’s good to stop and spend precious moments with one another.”

Amanda added she would be delighted to come to local primary schools, free of charge, to read her stories to the children.

The books are available on Amazon for £5.99 each.
