STEPPING on to an e-scooter in Redditch for the first time felt natural and easy, writes reporter Harry Leach.
There’s more than enough space on the platform to get both feet in a comfortable position to ride.
To get it started, I flicked back the brake pedal, pushed the e-scooter a few yards and then jumped on while holding down the throttle.
Due to restrictions, I was limited to 5mph around the town centre which felt a little slow, but makes perfect sense if we are going to avoid potential injuries to riders and pedestrians.
I never felt out of control or worried that I would crash in to people and I didn’t sense anyone was alarmed by my presence.
To look at, the e-scooters are smart, slick and certainly won’t be an eyesore when dotted around the town.
Their environmental benefit is staggering compared to driving a car and it certainly boosts Redditch’s credentials as being a greener place to live.
I know I, for one, will be using an e-scooter again and I hope others do too.
