Ring of Light at Redditch's Arrow Valley Park to raise funds for family after Lee lost his leukaemia battle

A TWILIGHT walk will take place at Arrow Valley Lake at 7pm on Thursday, September 11, to raise funds for the family of a Redditch man who lost his brave battle with leukaemia.

The 5k ‘Ring of Light’ will see participants stroll with orange glow sticks in a bid to produce an illuminated circle around the lake.

Lee Russon, who was 45 when he died earlier this year, had four children.

The event has been organised by his friends Sophie Griggs and Chris Rice.

For the Ring of Light walk, people are urged to meet at the boathouse cafe and the walk will last from 7pm to 9pm.

There will also be an open bar at the end of the walk so participants can raise a glass to Lee.

When the walk is in full flow, a drone will be sent up to photograph and video the orange ring of light around the lake.

Orange has been specifically chosen as it is the colour of the ribbon worn to show leukaemia awareness.

People are urged to take along torches, head torches and glow sticks. All children under 10 will be given an orange badge.

Everyone, including their children and dogs, are welcome to take part in the walk.

Lee was a massive Birmingham City fan and people are urged to wear their favourite football shirt – it does not have to be Blues, it can be whoever they support.

Taking part in the walk is by a suggested donation of £5 per person or £10 per family (whatever the size).

Sophie said: “We want as many people as possible to come down and show their support for a family which has been through an imaginably tough time.”

Children under 16 need to be with a parent to safeguard them on the walk.

The organisers want to thank Rubicon Leisure, Wins Wins Wins and the ‘Give the Dog a Drone’ for their support with the event.
