Road marshals save the day at Studley Christmas Lights Switch On

THE road marshals were on the ball at the Studley Christmas Lights Switch On when a car started and tried to pull out just as the children’s lantern walk was coming up the High Street.

The road had been closed at 5.30pm to traffic and the quick thinking marshals made sure this particular driver stayed put.

It was just as well as the event, organised by Studley in Business, Studley Christmas Lights and Studley Parish Council, was absolutely packed.

There were two markets for visitors to enjoy, one in the square and the other in the Village Hall.

Kevin Ward, town crier for Bromsgrove, had once again been co-opted into being the master of ceremonies and this year sponsorship came from Studley Castle.

Parish Council chair Councillor Colin Summers, who switched on the Christmas Lights with the help of Santa Claus and Studley Scouts, said: “It’s a massive turn out and a really great start to the Christmas season.

“It just goes to show that with the support of the community we can really put on a show.”

Sian Smith, chair of Studley in Business, added: “I was astonished to see so many people out enjoying themselves. It was utterly fantastic, and our thanks too to the marshals who did a great job.

“People came along, had a good time and you know what, they left the High Street looking clean and tidy too, cleaner than on a normal Friday night, so well done to everyone.”
