Roads Focus campaign offer to improve driving standards in West Mercia

Redditch Editorial 5th Nov, 2019   0

RESIDENTS are being given the opportunity to become better drivers and help improve the county’s roads as part of the second phase of a road safety campaign.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion and Worcestershire County Council are coming together for the next part of the ‘Roads Focus’ campaign – which, this time round, will be held across two weeks with the theme of ‘winter driving’.

During the campaign, which starts on November 18 to coincide with the National Road Safety Week, more drop-in sessions will be held across Worcestershire.

These will enable people to put comments and questions about road safety to the PCC, Worcestershire County Council, the Safer Roads Partnership and local policing teams.

For those who can’t attend the drop-in sessions, a ‘Facebook Live’ Q&A will be held to address road-related questions and concerns.

Across the two weeks there will also be two free driver awareness sessions on the Highway Code and cover speeds, road signs and hazard perception.

Those attending will also benefit from a 20 per cent discount on dashcams.

Also being offered is hands-on driver training to improve skills on to over and under steering, emergency braking and improving overall confidence.

To encourage more people to take up this great opportunity, the PCC is funding 50 per cent of the cost for the three hour course.

The nearest drop in sessions to Redditch and Bromsgrove are as follows:

Thursday, November 21 – 4pm until 6pm – Drop-in session, Woodrush High School, Shawhurst Lane, Hollywood, Birmingham, B47 5JW

Monday, November 25 – 7pm until 8pm – Live Q&A session – broadcast on Facebook, details available on the West Mercia PCC account

Wednesday, November 27 – 4pm until 6pm – Drop-in session, The Bell pub, 1286 Evesham Rd, Astwood Bank, Redditch, B96 6AX
