Robbie Williams and stars delight Redditch fans at gala night for show

THE stars were out in force on the green carpet in Stratford last week and there to greet them were a host of people from Redditch.

The gala night of the much-anticipated Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of David Walliams’s best-selling book The Boy in the Dress saw many famous names attend, including David Walliams himself, Natalie Imbruglio, Alan Carr, Guy Chambers and Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field.

Helen Biddle and her friend Rosemary Luff from Redditch had arrived early to grab a good spot.

“We stood for four hours in the rain, we were freezing, but it was worth it,” said Helen, managed to get David Walliams to autograph her programme which will be auctioned off to raise money for the Lucie Southall Leukaemia Fund.

Members of Team Lucie have raised tens of thousands of pounds for the charity, set up in memory of 12 year-old Redditch girl Lucie Southall who lost her battle with leukaemia a few years ago.

David Walliams also wrote a signed dedication in another programme to Michelle Southall, Lucie’s mum.

“Alan Carr ran over to us and asked for a selfie and there were stars from Bake Off too,” added Helen, who had been to see the show the day before.

“It was brilliant in the end, although we were absolutely freezing and had to go to McDonald’s for a warm.”
