Running a marathon to raise money for cat charity

Redditch Editorial 19th Apr, 2017   0

A KIND-HEARTED woman is stepping up her game and really getting her claws into marathon training – in aid of a charity for cats.

Stracy Moss, who works in Redditch, is running the London Marathon next month in aid of animal charity, Cats Protection Birmingham and wants to raise as much money as possible for the feline charity.

With a target of £1,000, animal-lover Stracy is training hard, running four times a week in preparation for the mammoth marathon run this Sunday (April 23).

40 year-old Stracy said: “I’m a bit nervous, but I am looking forward to it. Training for this momentous task, has meant 5am starts and training in all weathers, which has taken me completely out of my comfort zone.”

Stracy adopted a very shy cat named Bill Gates from the centre in 2009 and despite his struggle with trusting humans, he became a firm and important part of her family.

Much-loved pet Bill sadly died before Christmas last year, but Stracy is determined to raise funds for the charity who made his life and re-homing possible.

“They always gave us so much support along the way so I decided to do my bit to help them,” she said.

“At the Cat Protection, they help care for thousands of cats and kittens every year. They are all given health checks, inoculations, blood tests, micro-chips and neutering if needed, with the cost averaging around £150 per cat, and they never put a healthy cat to sleep.

“I really think animal charities are important and we should try to support them in the same way that we support cancer research and support charities too.

“Animals bring so much joy to so many people – they deserve to be well looked-after, and so do the charities who make that happen.”
