Rural rides beats closure to offer vital service to people in Redditch

A POPULAR community car scheme which uses volunteer drivers to transport people to important appointments has gone from strength to strength after coming close to closure last year.

Rural Rides, a long-running charity service used by people across Bromsgrove and Redditch, provides lifts for those unable to make a journey due to personal mobility difficulties. However this time last year it looked as if the charity might have to close.

Volunteer driver Colin Samways said: “Thanks to the intervention of Community Transport Wyre Forest (CTWF), Rural Rides has been able to continue helping people get to appointments at out-patients, doctors and dentists.”

CTWF is part of the network of community transport charities across Worcestershire.

Beverley Coldrick, manager of CTWF, said: “While it was difficult at first incorporating Rural Rides into our service, the determination to continue, of our drivers from Bromsgrove and Redditch and our office team in Bewdley, has made it work.”

Colin added: “We are seeing an increase in the numbers of people using the service and also those volunteering.”

Rural Rides is only a phone call away – call Beverley on 01299 405832 for more details.
