Sainsbury's opened by talented pupil

A BOROUGH pupil had the honour of opening the town’s relaunched Sainsbury’s supermarket.

Marcie Flemming cut the ribbon on Wednesday (November 26) after winning a competition to design a new Bag For Life.

The ten-year-old from Ridgeway Middle School was joined by Mayor Pat Witherspoon and MP Karen Lumley at the launch which came after an extension completed this week.

Store manager Tim Smedley said they had hundreds of entries and the standard was ‘really high’ but Marcie’s bright design caught the eye of the judges.

“Her design has been immortalised on a limited-edition Bag for Life that we’ve had made to mark the launch of the new-look store, so customers will be able to enjoy Marcie’s art for years to come.”
