School run parking in Redditch - Police to get tough with drivers

REDDITCH police are working with staff at Walkwood C of E Middle School to clamp down on dangerous parking.

Officers have issued a letter to parents and guardians urging them to stop blocking driveways and parking on double-yellow and zig zag lines outside the school when they pick up and drop off their children.

The parking battle has persisted for years and the highways authority, Worcestershire County Council, has so far failed to put a stop to the issue.

A police spokesperson said: “We will not tolerate any forms of verbal or physical abuse towards residents or other road users.

“Parking half on, half off a raised kerb where a pedestrian has to leave the footpath to pass a parked car is considered a dangerous obstruction.

“Behaviour of this nature will not be tolerated as we look to improve the safety of our children and community.”

Parents are being asked to park further away from the school to not only be safer but also to encourage exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

Police patrols will be carried out at the start and end of the school day and officers say action will be taken against anyone parking illegally.
