MORE than 100 vintage scooters rode through Redditch last week to honour the memory of Stephen Deaves aka Deavsy.
Steve died of a short illness on August 23 and on Friday (September 16) his son Jack led the procession on his dad’s pride and joy Lambretta whilst he was carried behind in the Lambretta hurse with scooters from across the county parading at his side.
Tributes have now been paid to the 57-year-old who was described by his friends as kind and gentle man with a dedication and love for the scooter scene and Northern Soul music.
Best friend Kaz Henderson said: “He had an infectious laugh and had us all in stitches whenever we met up.
“He would suggest ride outs on the scooters regularly but it always had to be somewhere by a river. He loved to sit by the water chatting away. To be fair and honest he would lead the trail of scooters to his suggested ride out place but would always get lost.”
Having a ‘scooterists’ send off was Steve’s last wish and kaz said by standers were amazed to see the fleet of Vespas and Lambrettas from Redditch, Bromsgrove, Worcester, Evehsam, Birmingham, Pershore, Stratford and Pershore.
She added: “He will be massively missed by all his family. Especially by his mother and his four children as well as the scooter scene which along with his friends, will never be the same again.
“It’s such a sad loss.”
