THE scorching weather may have broken – for now – but one Redditch teenager is hoping the sun keeps shining after growing watermelons in the garden of his Batchley home.
Trinity High School student Harris Khan, aged 15, encouraged by his mum Koluser, planted the watermelon seeds in the spring and watched in amazement as first the plants grew and then started to bear fruit.
“He absolutely loves watermelon and grows quite a lot in the garden, and because of the heat these have really come on,” said proud father Mohammed.
“I think if they keep growing they could weight about two kilos.”
