Scouts get out and about in Redditch

COMMUNITY-minded members of the 11th Redditch Rowan Beaver Scouts have been out and about across the town.

Over the last few weeks, the youngsters have taken part in various activities.

These have included a visit to the Redditch Museum where they discovered all about the town’s past and then took part in a quiz run by the volunteers.

“The museum outlines the history of Redditch including its industrial and private heritage and is a fascinating place to visit,” said the group’s leader Lesley Spencer.

“Our thanks must go to the volunteers that made us feel so welcome.”

The Beaver Scouts then had a visit from the Make a Wish Foundation where they made a donation of £100.

“The Beavers raised the money by paying 10p a week for a drink and a biscuit,” said Lesley.

“They were then asked to nominate a charity and voted for Make a Wish. Through this scheme and sponsored events we have given over £4,000 to local charities.”

The long arm of the law then dropped in on the group with a visit from two West Mercia police officers who talked to the Beavers about safety, both personal and online.

To end their meeting, the youngsters had a great time sitting in the police car and turning on the sirens.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in giving the Beavers such a great experience in the skills for life,” said Lesley.
