Severn Trent to close section of Alders Drive to replace more water pipes

Redditch Editorial 13th Feb, 2018   0

SEVERN Trent is to once again close a section of Alders Drive to replace water pipes.

From Monday, February 19 the one of the carriageways between Costers Lane in Winyates and the Warwick Highway will be shut and a one-way system will be in operation.

The utilities company has allocated three weeks to carry out the work but hopes it can be done sooner.

The news comes just a few weeks after Severn Trent sparked a major upset for residents of both Winyates Green and Winyates East when it reduced all of Alders Drive to one lane to replace ageing pipes, forcing the County Council to lay on a special bus to serve Far Moor Lane.

However that work, expected to take 11 weeks, was completed ahead of schedule and the roadworks were quickly lifted.

A spokesperson for Severn Trent said: “We’ve been carrying out further investigations on Alders Drive and we’ve now found that a section of the pipe at the bottom of the road towards Warwick Highway, also needs replacing.

“To carry out the work, we’ll need to put in a lane closure.

“We fully appreciate it may cause more inconvenience but it’s absolutely vital we make sure this work is completed and all of the pipe is in top condition so we can make sure everyone has a reliable water supply for years to come.

“We’ll be doing what we can to get this section of pipe replaced and everything back to normal as quickly as possible.”

All other roads will be unaffected, apart from the lane closure from the roundabout to Costers Lane.

As a consequence, the county bus service will be in operation running at 9.30am / 10.30am / 12noon and 1pm from Far Moor Lane to outside St Stephen’s in the town centre for the duration of the work.
