Sew good: Sarah's 'scrub-a-thon' kit destined for staff at the Alex

MORE tea! That’s the cry from Sarah Baker who has just completed a 24 hours ‘scrub-a-thon’ spread over two days.

The beverage has been the fuel that’s kept her going – and a desire to do what she can for our NHS.

A seamstress by trade, Sarah had just opened a new business in Headless Cross when the lockdown came into force.

With prom balls and weddings cancelled she wanted to help tackle the coronavirus pandemic and so set to putting her sewing talent to good use.

“One of my last customers before the lockdown was a nurse,” said Sarah.

“She said then there weren’t enough scrubs to go round and of course the demand has increased as they have to be changed so often.”

She found a design online, got it approved and set to work.

Initially she paid for everything herself, then turned to friends and family to contribute as demand surged.

In the end she was forced to launch a crowdfunder page to help cover the costs.

“I’ve been sending them everywhere, to Worcestershire Royal, Birmingham, and of course the Alex,” said Sarah.

“The ones I’m doing for the scrub-a-thon will be going to the Alex and I’ll keep on doing them for as long as the demand is there.”
