FRESH strawberries, lovely tomatoes, peas, beans – all local produce – are going on sale at Simply Fresh in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre thanks to Dunnington business Mudwalls.
Fruit and veg experts Mudwalls, who won fame during lockdown by keeping local vulnerable people, nursing homes and hospices stocked with food parcels, has teamed up with the Kingfisher’s latest arrival Simply Fresh.
The store, opposite The Range and right by the car park, will now stock the latest local tasty items from the Vale of Evesham or, at a push, Herefordshire.
“We’ve gone into partnership with Simply Fresh so that we can bring the greengrocer back to Redditch, bypassing the long supply chain the shops usually use to bring produce to sale,” said George Beach of Mudwalls.
“It’s bringing produce direct to the store.”
Top picks for Redditch shoppers to look out for, said George, are: “Brilliant strawberries, lovely tomatoes, peas, beans and more, all sourced locally.”
Eighteen months ago Mudwalls hit the headlines by supplying bags of nourishing fruit and veg to volunteer groups and pharmacies so they could pass them on to people self-isolating.
Their efforts won them widespread praise for helping organisations like the Shakespeare Hospice, the hospice at home that cares for people battling cancer in south Warwickshire.
Back then George said on their acts of lockdown kindness: “We grow and procure a lot of fruit and veg.
“We supply convenience and community stores rather than the big supermarkets and we’ve been sitting here thinking how lucky are we because our business has grown.
“Then I thought we should be doing something for people who are not so lucky.”
