KIND-HEARTED employees at the Kingfisher Centre’s New Look store are going the extra mile for charity this weekend, after spending their Friday evenings baking up a storm at home.
As part of a nation-wide fund-raising event, staff will be holding a cake sale in store on both Saturday (February 13) and Sunday (February 14) to help raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust.
With around seven young people aged between 13 and 24, diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK, the Redditch team are just one of 26 stores from across the region dedicated to raising vital funds for the charity.
Fashion-savvy staff will be tempting shoppers with cupcakes and ‘cake pops’ – think lollipop but in cake form – for bargain prices, with all proceeds donated to the Trust.
As part of the fund-raising effort, the Redditch team accepted the New Look mission earlier this month, to walk a mile in honour of the charity .
On a wet and windy February 6, staff donned fancy dress outfits and set off on the town’s ‘Golden Mile’ – a popular stretch of Evesham Road.
Starting in The Fleece, the team enjoyed a few pit-stops along the way where participants were ‘fined’ if they did not keep their right hands in the air while enjoying a much-needed drink.
All ‘fines’ went straight into the charity collection boxes which were taken along for the trek.
“It went really well and all the staff have been so supportive,” said Sarah Maycroft, Redditch store manager.”They were all excited – it was great.”
The excursion helped the team to raise £613 which has been added to the region total of around £6,500 that New Look stores from Birmingham’s The Fort to Malvern have helped raise.
Anyone who wants to help support Teenage Cancer Trust can pop into New Look throughout Saturday or Sunday.
