LOCAL baker Hannah Prendergast, has been shortlisted for an award in a new initiative celebrating influential women making a difference in business with a social conscience.

Backed by RBS and Natwest, WISE100 (Women In Social Enterprise 100) aims to recognise 100 women making waves in social enterprise, impact investment and social innovation.

Hannah founded 9 Tea Cups Bakery and Social Enterprise, a Redditch based gluten-free home bakery.

Not only that but it also subsidises and runs support workshops and advocacy services for autistic people, survivors of trauma, people who struggle with their mental health and disabled people.

Other support services include community fitness classes and body positivity workshops.

Hannah, also lectures on the topics of disability, neurodiversity and advocacy, and has guest lectured on Redditch’s Heart of Worcestershire College BA Social Work course.

She said: “I am so humbled to be included with such amazing women, our work has taken us across the country and it is such an honour to be recognised.”

Julie Baker, head of enterprise business banking at RBS and NatWest launched the WISE100.

She said: “We know social enterprises already have a fantastic record compared with traditional businesses in terms of their representation of women in leadership roles.

“With WISE100 we want to put a spotlight on women across the UK who are leading the way for business with a social purpose.”

Hannah is one of 250 businesswomen who have been nominated, and will find out if she has been included in the WISE100 at the award ceremony at the RBS London trading centre on October 12.
