Redditch Editorial 4th Mar, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

AN appeal has gone out for big hearted Redditch families to help host a group of teenage French students for a fortnight.

The students, aged from 13 to 16, are all from the Paris area and are coming to the town from July 12 to July 25 to improve their English.

The call has been made by French national and Redditch resident Celine Dommart, one half of the hit gypsy jazz combo Duo Montparnasse, who is organising the trip of behalf of French language experts LEC.

“We are looking for families or individuals who have got a spare room and have an interest in making the students feel welcome and treating them like one of the family,” said Celine. “Ideally we want the students to live an English life.”

The youngsters will be occupied from at least 9am to 5pm with classes in the morning at Redditch Library and cultural activities in the afternoon so host families would be free to go about their normal lives during the day. Trips and events are also planned for the weekend.

In addition and all host families will receive a payment of £195 for their generosity.

“Families can benefit in many ways, besides financial. They will have an opportunity to show the English way of life, enable someone to discover new things, and there’ also the opportunity to forge life-long friendships and to form their own ‘French Connection’,” said Celine.

In all, 30 hosts are needed and families can take more than one student if they wish.
