Simple hygiene can help beat coronavirus say county health chiefs

FOR most people who get coronavirus, it will be a mild infection – that’s the message from Worcestershire County Council.

However it says everyone has a role to play in protecting the most vulnerable people in society.

The message comes as County Hall in Worcester says it is doing everything it can alongside the local NHS and Public Health England to stop the virus spreading and ensure the people of Worcestershire are protected.

County chiefs say regular hand washing is one step everyone can take, making sure hands are washed with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and then dried thoroughly.

Councillor John Smith, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said: “Good hygiene is the best prevention, the best way to stop the virus from spreading.

“It is the most effective way that you can help protect yourself alongside your friends and family by washing your hands regularly and thoroughly and if you cough, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue and dispose of it immediately.

It’s really important that everyone follows the latest guidance about staying at home if you show even the slightest symptoms of coronavirus.”

Anyone showing symptoms of coronavirus (a high temperature and/or a new continuous cough) is being told to self-isolate for seven days, from the point that the symptoms started.
