Smell the coffee - Carers Careline lays on an Aroma Cafe treat

Ross Crawford 14th Nov, 2021

AROMA Cafe on Church Green East had a busy morning when it played host to local charity Carers Careline so 30 or of its registered carers could get together.

“The whole place rang with laughter and chatter,” a volunteer for the charity said.

“And the café staff did a spectacular job keeping everybody happy.”

So much so that Carers Careline has agreed with Aroma to make it a regular spot for their monthly coffee shop meet up.

“It was just lovely to see everyone together,” said the charity’s chief officer Erica Di Meo.

“A gathering like this is a regular part of our support group service and so important for the unpaid carers we support.

“It gets them out of the house for a while and offers mutual support as they meet and make friends with other carers.

“It keeps them in touch and gives them something to look forward to – and it’s only a small part of the help we can offer.”

The charity is there to support unpaid carers and help them deal with all kinds of issues through its programme of services including activity groups, events, get-togethers, trips and talks.

It is always there to offer a listening ear when people need one through its telephone support and drop-in services.

It can also help with benefits, making sure carers are getting everything they are entitled to and assisting them with form-filling if they’re not.

For those who need further support, the charity can also arrange immediate counselling and holds a bereavement group once a month.
