Smoothing the path ahead so Redditch family can meet up

A ROCKY road has been smoothed over thanks to the intervention of a Redditch county councillor.

Back in September the Redditch Standard revealed how local resident Michelle Langman of Lakeside found she was effectively cut off from her in-laws.

They had moved into Arthur Jobson House in Abbeydale earlier this year and in theory the underpass connecting Arrow Road North, Lakeside to Abbeydale should have made life easy for the close family to keep in touch.

However such was its poor state of repair that it was well nigh impossible for Michelle’s mother-in-law, Ann Piff, who is largely dependent on a wheelchair to get about, to make the journey.

“The underpass between Abbeydale and Lakeside was an absolute a disgrace,” said Michelle.

She had contacted Worcestershire County Council’s Highways Department but she said all they had done was repair three patches.

County Councillor Emma Marshall (Con, Arrow Valley West) read the article and contacted Michelle Langman to find out what could be done.

She then liaised with county highways engineers who assessed the pathway.

Coun Marshall then used some of her divisional funds to ensure a propert repair was carried out as soon as possible.

She said: “I’m pleased to have been able to help not only this family but the many others who use this underpass.

“I can’t always get projects moving quite as quickly as this, but am always on hand to have a chat and see what can be done.”
