HEADLESS Cross transatlantic yachtsman Nick Joyce is getting ready to re-launch his 21ft Mini Transat boat ‘Señor Blu’ to start training for the punishing singlehanded event scheduled for 2017.
The Classe Mini 6.50 yacht has nearly finished it’s refit at Cowes Yacht Haven and will be launched this weekend with a launch party set for March 25.
The boats, described as ‘downwind sleds’, feature three sails, a mainsail, genoa and a huge off wind asymmetric ‘gennaker’, have been reported reaching speeds of up to 30 knots and will follow the tradewinds west.
Nick will be training in the Solent during March before heading off to L’Orient in France to compete in the first offshore race of his season starting on April 9.
