Son horrified at damp in his mum's Redditch council house

AN ASTWOOD Bank resident has hit out at Redditch Borough Council saying workers called to fix the damp in his mother’s house had left it in an ‘appalling condition’.

Mark Doodey’s mum has Parkinson’s Disease and he said the condition her house is in is causing her distress.

“They treated it with special equipment, myself and my sister decorated it and within a week the damp was back again.

“In the downstairs bathroom the ceiling is falling down, there’s black mould and damp all around the window and again the plaster is coming off.”

He said his mum had lived in the house since 1975 and has had a lot of problems with the property.

“Seeing is believing with my mum’s house,” he said.

A council spokesperson said: “Historically work has been undertaken to deal with the issue of damp in this property.

“Unfortunately, this remedial work has not solved the issue and indicates that there may be an underlying problem.

“Our senior surveyor has been out to assess the property again recently and, with immediate effect, we will be contacting our contracted engineer to do a full structural survey to get to the root cause of the damp issue.

“Our contractor will be in touch with the resident shortly.”
