South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust launches new green strategy

Redditch Editorial 27th Dec, 2020   0

SOUTH Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust is launching a new sustainability strategy to bring a greener approach to its operations.

In 2011 the Trust launched its first carbon management plan looking to integrate sustainable practice into day-to-day operations, involving staff across the organisation as well as reaching out to patients and visitors.

The new strategy will build on and challenges the Trust to achieve its ambitious goals as well as meet targets set in the NHS Long Term Plan and Net Zero NHS report.

Activities underway include:

Engaging members of the Patients Forum in developing the ‘Food for Life’ programme to reduce food waste across the Trust.

Establishing low-carbon travel for staff, including a car-sharing scheme, a cycle to work scheme and the use of electric vehicles.

Investing in electronic systems to support clinical record keeping, prescribing and the transfer of test results between departments.

Creating a garden of wellbeing at Stratford Hospital for staff and people in the local community and to provide opportunities to use gardening as means of patient rehabilitation.
