GETTING the best results for the least work was the theme of speaker Derek Bull when he addressed Alcester Gardening Club on ‘The Reluctant Gardener’.
Top tips included planting a bottle of beer at the end of every few rows of hoeing as an incentive and taking a glass of wine with you when doing the tedious chore of dead-heading.
Amongst the humour there was much good advice, including how keeping the lawn a decent length will prevent the need for much weeding and feeding, how raised beds make for ease of cultivation as well as advice on ground-covering plants for all seasons, and varieties of roses and perennials which need less attention.
The club’s next meeting will be on Thursday, March 7 when Richard Baldwin, from Pershore College, will talk on growing vegetables in a small garden. It starts at 7.30pm in the Centre in Jubilee Court in Alcester.
