FRIENDS in China of Stratford District Council have donated a range of personal protective equipment (PPE) to NHS staff working in Warwick Hospital.

The Chinese city of Meishan in Sichuan Province made the donation to the council, which covers Alcester and Studley, for use by medics treating coronavirus patients and across the NHS community services.

Meishan City has donated 25,000 masks and 200 disposable protective suits and all the equipment has passed the necessary requirements and regulations that all PPE must do before staff are able to use it.

Meishan is a city which shares many of Stratford’s historic cultural attributes and Stratford District’s chairman Councillor Christopher Kettle said: “We are very grateful to our friends in Meishan, China for this very supportive offer during our current health crisis.”

The city donated 25,000 masks and 200 disposable protective suits.

Glen Burley, South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust chief executive added: “I want to say a huge thank you to Meishan for their generous donation of personal protective equipment in such a crucial time for the NHS.

“With their support, we are able to continue providing essential care to our patients in hospital and in the community, while keeping them and our staff safe during these unprecedented times.

“We are extremely grateful and would like to also thank Stratford District Council for their support.”
