Special remembrance parade

Redditch Editorial 6th Nov, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

A SPECIAL remembrance parade will take place in Winyates and Matchborough on Sunday (November 9) for the first time.

The idea is the brainchild of the Winning Winyates project and Rev Richard Harding from Christ Church in Matchborough with the aim of using the shared experience of loss and remembrance to bring the two communities together.

The two estates were built as part of the new town development and as a result share little generational history.

The parade starts from Winyates Centre at 10.15am where a wreath will be laid under a new remembrance plaque.

From there people will make their way to Christ Church in Matchborough where Rev Harding will hold a short service of remembrance.

Pupils from RSA Ipsley will read two poems by war poets and lay a wreath under the plaque in Matchborough.

A book of remembrance will also be opened for people who lost relatives during the First World War to write in.
