Spreading festive cheer across Redditch

SPREADING FESTIVE CHEER: THE TOWN’s Labour councillors were in the festive spirit this Christmas, offering friendship and a warm meal to residents who may have been lonely or in need on Christmas Eve.

The team, led by Coun Joe Baker, deputy Mayor of Redditch, helped to make more than 250 portions of shepherd’s pie to deliver to the community and to serve to residents who visited SPACE in the town’s Winyates Centre to enjoy a chat over their meal.

Portions were sent to organisations across the town including the YMCA, church groups and resident organisations.

Coun Baker said: “I feel it is so important in these economical times that those who are less well off can have a hot meal and company – we as members of the Labour party have a responsibility to help those in need.”

He added a special thanks towards the scheme’s volunteers and managers at Sainsbury’s Redditch who donated tinned tomatoes and vegetables along with Taylors the Butchers who supplied 28 kilos of mince at a discounted price.
