Spreading the luck: Mudwalls Farm happy to help the community

Redditch Editorial 18th Apr, 2020   0

A FRUIT and veg farm has been stepping in to help local good causes and charities cope with lockdowns and coronavirus.

Mudwalls Farm at Dunnington near Alcester, has been supplying bags of nourishing fruit and veg to volunteer groups and pharmacies so they can pass it on to people self-isolating.

They’ve also won widespread praise for helping Shakespeare Hospice, the hospice at home that cares for people battling cancer in south Warwickshire.

“We grow and procure a lot of fruit and veg here and have been one of the lucky companies recruiting staff rather than furloughing them,” said managing director George Beach.

“We supply convenience and community stores rather than the big supermarkets and we’ve been sitting here thinking how lucky are we because our business has grown.

“Then I thought we should be doing something for people who are not so lucky.”

Mudwalls was already supporting Shakespeare Hospice but the decision to expand the giving saw the farm hand out bags packed with fruit and veg adorned with a ‘With Love from Mudwalls’ sticker and delivered to people in need.

“We’ve had an abundance of lovely letters in reply which is great,” added George.

In fact it’s proved so successful that Mudwalls have now launched a delivery service for those who’ve visited the supermarket and discovered the greengrocer section already plundered.

“It’s a paid-for service, but we cover Redditch, Alcester, Studley and so on, and it means people can get fresh fruit and veg delivered to their door,” said George.

Mudwalls Farm can be found online or next door to Hillers Farm Shop when the lockdown restrictions are lifted.
