Spring off the couch in Redditch with new running courses

NEW Couch to 5k courses are set to start across Redditch this month.

The nine-week courses are designed for absolute beginners and offer an easy way to get fitter and healthier for anyone, whether you’ve never run before or want to get back into being more active.

Anyone that wants to ditch the couch and start running are welcome at any session people do not need to book, and sessions are completely free.

There will be kit available free to collect tomorrow (Saturday, May 3) at Batchley Support Group, Oasis in Woodrow and Inspire Support Services in the Winyates Craft Centre.

At the Abbey Stadium track, sessions take place on Sundays at 10am, Mondays at 7.30pm and Wednesdays at 7.30pm.

At Stitch Meadow, Arrow Valley Lake, they will be held on Mondays at 10am and at 7pm on Thursdays.

Other sessions take place at 6.30pm on Wednesdays at Matchborough Pond, at 6.30pm on Thursdays at The Field in Woodrow (meet by Studley Road car park), 9.30am on Fridays at Batchley Pond and at 9am on Saturdays in Morton Stanley Park.

The weekly sessions, which are all free, are led by Run Leaders who hold official qualifications from England Athletics and provide a course which is fully endorsed by the NHS. Participants are advised to attend three sessions a week on whichever days are ideal.

Bromsgrove District and Redditch Borough Council sports development officer, Hayley Gwilliam, said: “The health and mental benefits of taking part in a Couch to 5k course are amazing and can really set you up for a good week or day. It’s no surprise it is such a high attendance activity, even more so over spring and summer.”
