Spud's lockdown adventures the perfect tale for new book

Redditch Editorial 26th Jun, 2021   0

THE adventures of a furry friend have spurred a local volunteer to write her first book.

Spud’s a two-year-old long-haired Syrian hamster and when work dried up for his owner, Lisa Murray-Lang, she set about putting his tall tales down.

“Early into the first lockdown I let him out in his exercise ball, but he escaped,” said Lisa, who volunteers at the Cramar Cat Sanctuary.

“Although I quickly got him back, for me it was a light bulb moment to start creating adventures for him.

Lockdown author: Lisa Murray-Lang with her Spud books.

“Me and my partner William may have been stuck indoors but there was no reason why he need be.”

And so Spud’s visited the ‘Rodents Return’ on Coronation Squeak, went to wizard school at ‘Hamwarts’, and even went to Bucking-ham Palace!

A copy of Spud’s adventures have even been sent to the Queen, Lisa receiving a letter of thanks, postmarked Windsor Castle, from a lady in waiting.

Spud’s tales also won him a prize Hamster Hamper from Professor Noel Fitzpatrick’s Charity the Humanimal Trust #StrongerTogether worth £20. He has also got a badge from Blue Peter for his carbon footprint being zero even though he’s travelled the world, along with a letter and signed photo from Sir David Attenborough.
