St Bede's pupils become Junior Cadets after learning about life as a PCSO

YEAR 5 pupils at St Bede’s Catholic Middle School were presented with Junior Cadet awards after learning about life as a police community support officer (PCSO).

The six-week programme, which runs throughout Worcestershire, teaches youngsters, aged between 8-11, important values.

West Mercia PCSO Denise Thompson attended the Holloway Lane school with her colleague Gemma Bosco-Woods on the final day of the course.

Denise said: “It was fantastic to see all the children really take on board everything we said.

“We showed them how we communicate with eachother by letting them have a go on our radios and taking a look inside our police car.”

Pupils also learned how to contact the police in an emergency and took part in a range of activities including a mock road traffic collision where they had their ‘fingerprints taken’.

Denise added: “When presented with their awards, each pupil stood up and promised to always be polite to their fellow cadets, to work well together and be the best possible version of themselves in the future.”
