St Stephens is blooming beautiful

GOLDEN sunflowers and marigolds are blooming by St Stephens Church in the town centre thanks to the dedicated work of the people at Connect Redditch.

Individuals at the centre with a keen interest in gardening showed they really had green fingers when, with the help of community access workers Angela Mason and Karen Slater they took over a patch of barren ground by the church and proceeded to turn it into a beauty spot.

“It’s been really rewarding for our individuals to see the flowers grow from seed into what is now a beautiful flowerbed,” said Karen, “and it has been lovely for them to forge those links with the community.”

She added that users of the centre, formerly the Halcyon Building, had spent the summer weeding, watering and tending the beds, scattering them with wildflower seeds too and now intended to put a plaque on the site to mark their achievement.

Staff at the centre now plan to make this an ongoing project benefiting the church, passersby and Connect Redditch users for years to come.
