Stamp appeal is the perfect tonic for hedgehogs in Redditch and Alcester

A CAMPAIGN to collect stamps to help hedgehogs in the Redditch and Alcester area has been hailed a success.

Last month, staff from Alcester-based funeral arrangers Hemming and Peace called upon the public to donate their used postage stamps to raise money for The British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

Christopher O’Brien, funeral arranger and campaign leader, said: “We managed to collect a huge box full of stamps for the charity, so it was a great success. We are so grateful to the community to donating all their stamps.”

When he delivered the donated stamps to the charity branch near Claverdon, Chris was also lucky enough to meet two hedgehogs rescued from Alcester high-street by the Society.

He added: “It was a real treat to meet the two hedgehogs and it was wonderful to see where the money we helped raise will be going.

“We learned that the medicines for the hogs are very expensive and the carers usually have to pay out of their own pockets as funds are so low. I will continue to raise funds for the charity in other ways as well now that I’ve seen how hard they work.”

Founded in 1982 the Hedgehog Preservation Society offers help and advice to those with sick, injured or orphaned hedgehogs and maintains a list of people prepared to rehabilitate them in the UK.
