A STEEL worker has paid tribute to his hometown by writing ‘Redditch’ across several monuments in New York City.

Colm Burke, aged 62, moved to the Big Apple in 1978 but remains fiercely proud of his roots and where he came from.

While working at the One World Trade Centre four years ago, Colm wrote ‘Redditch’ on the very last beam.

He has also paid homage by writing on the Statue of Liberty as well as the world’s tallest residential skyscraper, the Central Park Tower.

After emigrating to America he met his wife Marie and the couple later had two sons Jack and Colm.

Speaking about his father, Colm, aged 25, said: “Redditch means everything to him.

“We go to Redditch two or three times a year as a family and visit my grandparents’ graves in Redditch Cemetery.

“He is due to retire soon so I just wanted to point out how much Redditch means to him.”
