ASPIRING fashion designers are stitching their way to success with the help of Inkberrow Design Centre (IDC).
Members of the town’s IDC, which is based at The Old Needle Works in Britten Street, invited students from across the borough to join the team on a work experience placement – culminating in Europe’s largest craft trade show.
Pupils from St. Benedict’s Catholic High School, Alcester Grammar, South Bromsgrove High School and Evesham’s Prince Henry’s School were amongst those invited to help the IDC team prepare for their tenth year showcasing at the Craft Hobby and Stitch International Trade Show from February 20 to 22nd at Birmingham’s NEC.
The event saw youngsters involved in a programme which worked with John Bead of Canada, Beadlon of America and
Gutterman of Germany, to name just three.
Brenda Killigrew, director at IDC, said: “The back stage experience meant students interested in a career in fashion could be part of the team that organised the showcasing of the latest fabrics for the upcoming seasons trend.
“They got to see designs first and learn about backstage production of fashion shows.”
The IDC has developed the programme to widen placement opportunities to students from Wolverhampton Grammar, Bourneville College and second year interns from BCU (Birmingham City University) Fashion Degree Programme.
Following its success at the NEC, wich included delivering three fashion shows each day, the IDC will be responsible for the fashion show at the NEC’s Fashion and Embroidery Show on March 17 to 20.
Here, work experience opportunities are extended to modelling the clothing – anyone interested in finding out more should call Brenda on 01527 69100.
