STORM EUNICE UPDATES - Hundreds of homes hit with power cuts and fallen trees causing chaos

STORM Eunice has arrived in Worcestershire and has already brought chaos to some parts of the county.

UPDATE – 5.01

Worcestershire Highways & Travel getting the gritters out.

POWER CUT

More than 400 properties in Redditch and Alcester are without electricity after a power cut.

The homes are all around the Enfield area of Redditch and Oversley green.

The power was lost around 11am and Western Power Distribution engineers are on the scene but electricity may not be restored until 9pm in Redditch and 10pm in Alcester.

The postcodes affected are below –

ROADS

A fallen tree at Callow Hill Lane blocking one lane near Windmill Drive, Redditch and at Eathorpe Close, Redditch.

Two roads are blocked in Alvechurch by fallen trees – Swan Street and Woodpecker Close, off Ash Lane.

Another tree has fallen blocking the road in Truemans Heath Lane, Wythall.

There is also a fallen tree at Coventry Highway, Redditch near Battens Drive.

Worcestershire Highways are aware of  the incidents and are sending crews to the scenes.

SCHOOL CLOSURES 

St Luke’s CE First School in Redditch is closed due to the risk from storm Eunice, with high winds forecast, the school will be closed today for all pupils. Remote learning will be provided for all pupils.

Tardebigge CE First School is closed today due to the storm and the age and position of the school building.

 

Plans in place for Worcestershire – 

RAIL

West Midlands Railway issued a its ‘do not travel’ warning for commuters for Friday, expecting disruption from fallen trees and flying debris.

Blanket speed restrictions will be in place on all services and will also cause delays.

 

ROADS

Due to the potential severity of Storm Eunice Worcestershire County Council Highways teams have suspended non-essential highway maintenance operations so they can use their available resources to deal with fallen trees, flooding and other hazards.

Anyone who spots a fallen tree blocking a road or other issues should call Worcestershire Highways on 01905 845676.
