THE Music Shop in the Kingfisher Centre which shut its doors in February is to re-open under new management and with a new name, writes Annie Lucas.
Musician and singing coach Tracy Anne Wright is to take it over, converting it into ‘Vocalize Studios’.
Ms Wright, who owns Vocalize Performing Arts Academy, has plans to divide the shop in half to provide more studio space for keyboard, percussion, guitar and vocal tuition.
It’s hoped the shop and the studios will in mid-April.
Ms Wright said: “It has also given me the opportunity to pursue a real passion and I will now be able to design the space to incorporate additional teaching and recording spaces.”
She has created her own performance academy which has offered drama, dance and musical workshops in Redditch since 2010.
The Music Shop closed in February with former proprietor Pete Docherty saying it had struggled to compete with online purchasing.
Former employee Steve Frampton, who worked at the business for 27 years, will be again returning to the shop to train staff and to help out.
“When the shop closed their was a massive response to the news, it took me quite aback,” he said.
“We did well to hang on for the last 10 to 12 years but I think this time around, with a mix of shop and studios, the shop will prosper under Tracy.”
