Studley firm Namco forging ahead with move to new premises

Correspondent 10th Jul, 2019

A SPECIALIST engineering firm supplying companies around the world is set for fresh growth after finding a new base in Studley – and that could mean fresh job opportunities for budding young engineers in the area.

Namco Tooling has been successfully making specialist threading equipment for three decades but needed to move from its ageing premises at Marlborough Works in Studley, which is where Redditch property agent John Truslove stepped in.

“They were quite old and in poor condition,” said director Graham Cooke.

“We needed somewhere more suitable as we invested in more computerised manufacturing and tooling equipment.

“I’ve known John Truslove for 30 or 40 years. The agency did an excellent job, finding us new premises.”

The company and its 20-strong team have now moved into Unit 1 at Victoria Works, on the Birmingham Road in Studley.

The 11,749 sq ft (1,092 sqm) unit has put Namco in a position to win even more work.

“We have a strong reputation based on the skills of our people and the accuracy of the tooling we produce,” said Mr Cooke.

“We export around 60 per cent to 70 per cent of everything we make all over the world.

“Now we are established at the new premises, we are looking into taking on a number of new trainees and apprentices as we look to the future.”

Ben Truslove, joint managing director of John Truslove, helped secure a five year lease on the Victoria Works unit for Namco Tooling and also sold Namco’s previous Marlborough Works site to Frontier Estates, who have since obtained planning permission to redevelop the site for a care home.

Mr Truslove said: “We have had a long and successful relationship with Graham Cooke and Namco, so we had a good idea of the type of premises the company needed for the next stage in its development.”
