A YOUNG Studley girl who had to have 30 stitches after she was bitten on the face by a dog last year has swum more than half a mile in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Josie James took the plunge at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre on April 22 and swam 32 lengths – half a mile – to raise money for the hospital which cared for her after she was badly bitten by a dog at a friend’s house last year.
The plucky youngster then pushed out further, swimming an extra eight lengths to bring her total to 1,000 metres.
The youngster had 30 stitches and was looked after as a priority case by the plastics department at the Birmingham hospital.
As a result the six-year-old set out to raise £500 for the hospital to say thank you for all they did for her.
However through the generosity of her friends, family and supporters she has already smashed through her original target and is looking to hit the £2,000 mark.
So far she has raised almost £1,700 and is hopeing the people of Redditch will help her to reach her new target.
Her dad Simon said: “We are all so proud of Josie. She loves swimming but to swim so far at such a young age is a big achievement.
“She was quite exhausted after the swim, but had a big smile on her face because she knew she was doing it for a good cause. She’s an amazing little girl.”
