Studley Midsummer Party organisers appeal for marquee and stage

Redditch Editorial 14th Feb, 2020   0

THE organisers of the Studley Midsummer Party in the Park are appealing for a marquee and stage for musicians to play on.

The free event, on Saturday, June 20, runs from 2pm to 10pm and will be on the ‘Rec’ off Crooks Lane.

It is set to feature between eight and ten acts showcasing everything from classical music to rock and pop to the musicals and the performing arts.

It will be backed by food and drink concessions, a small funfair and a host of family activities.

“We have a steady team of six to eight people working on it and we’ve contacted The Redditch Orchestra, Rock Choir and Studley Operatic Society among others,” Shohaib Shafiq of organisers Studley in Business told Parish Councillors on Tuesday, February 4.

“We’re also looking at getting the local leisure centre involved, and an exercise studio is interested in putting on a family fitness day.

“At the moment we are trying to find someone who can lend us a big marquee to the event, or failing that we will have to buy one.”

About 20 to 30 commercial stalls were expected, their pitch fees – £60 for alcohol and food and £40 for others – going to underwrite the cost of the event, with community stalls free as long as they didn’t sell anything.

Councillors pointed out that stopping community groups from raising money was unfair as every penny they raised in the village was ploughed straight back into the village.

“If you reduce it to £10 then all you have to do is police it to make sure they are not selling anything a commercial stall is selling,” said Coun Sandra Crofts.

Mr Shafiq agreed to take the idea on board, notify local residents well in advance of the event, and look into parking issues highlighted by Councillors and to report back nearer the day.

If anyone has a marquee that could be used for the Party in the Park, call Mr Shafiq on 07970 832090.
