Free music festival to take place in Studley next year

A FREE music festival is being planned for Studley to be held on June 20, 2020.

Featuring bands, drama, local choirs and performance artists, it would take place on ‘The Rec’ off Crooks Lane.

Visitors will be invited to bring along picnics and enjoy a great day out, said Shohaib Shafiq, of Studley in Business, who presented the proposals to Studley Parish Council on Tuesday (February 19).

“Perhaps we can also have fairground rides on part of the car park and hopefully the event will fund itself through stalls, sponsorship and so on,” he said.

He added there had been hopes of holding a music festival this year but with just four months to go it was decided to leave it until 2020.

“I’m hoping there won’t be a lot for the parish council to do although it is likely to finish late and we might need help it letting people know that,” said Mr Shafiq, who added it should finish by 10pm.

The news was welcomed by councillors who unanimously backed the proposal subject to updates on its progress.

“We have had several events out there on ‘The Rec’ and every single one has been well supported,” said Coun Paul Beaman. “It’s something good to look forward to and with it 18 months away it gives us plenty of time to get things organised.”
