STUDLEY Parish Council has decided to closed the skate park at Crooks Lane Recreation Area following independent advice that the structure has reached the end of its safe operational life.
The facility, which has been well used by local young people and families for many years, was subject to a routine annual inspection in October 2025.
On professional recommendation, a full structural survey was then commissioned.
The independent report, received in January 2026, identified extensive corrosion and confirmed the skate park is sadly beyond economical repair.
With public safety as the overriding priority, Studley Parish Council said it took the difficult but necessary decision to close the facility with immediate effect from February 23.
The site has since been fenced off and the council has liaised with local schools to ensure young people are aware of the closure.
Acting Chair of Studley Parish Council, Coun Penny Hunt, said: “We know and understand how valued the skate park has been by young people and families in Studley, and we do not underestimate the disappointment this closure will cause.
“However, the independent survey was clear that the structure has come to the end of its life. The only responsible option was therefore to close it.”
Studley Parish Council has confirmed it will now begin developing proposals for new facilities at Crooks Lane, placing community engagement at the centre of the process to ensure future provision reflects the needs, priorities and aspirations of the community.
Coun Julie Palmer added: “The parish council is determined that what comes next reflects what young people and families in and around Studley want and need.
“We will be inviting local residents, schools and youth groups to help shape proposals so that we can deliver a sustainable facility the whole community can be proud of.”
Details of the consultation process will be announced shortly.
