Studley safe zone ideas set for consultation

Redditch Editorial 8th Apr, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

PLANS to create ‘school safety zones’ in Studley are to go out to consultation.

The project, driven forward by county councillor Clive Rickhards, follows a string of complaints of drivers speeding along Crooks Lane at school times.

The plans would see 20mph advisory signs on Crooks Lane which would flash at peak times at anyone going faster.

In addition a coating of red aggregate would be laid on the road to warn drivers.

The area would extend along Crooks Lane outside the high school and parts of Station Road.

There would be renewed signage on Pool Road with railings painted black to smarten up the route.

A similar range of warnings are planned for New Road outside the junior school.

“The whole thing is to ensure we have safer areas around our schools and studies have shown that even outside peak times the measures do have a psychological effect on drivers to slow down making it safer for everyone all of the time,” said Coun Rickhards.
