Studley and Sambourne go to the polls in key vote for district council

VOTERS in ‘Studley South and Sambourne’ go to the polls on Thursday (February 25) in a district council by-election caused by the resignation of the then Conservative councillor Nick Moon.

All five candidates have been spending shoe leather combing the streets of the two villages in an effort to win their votes in what is already an intriguing election.

Standing are local campaigner and Studley stalwart Hazel Wright for the Lib Dems, parish councillor Karen Somner-Brown for Labour, former Lib Dem district councillor and current parish council chairman Paul Beaman for the Conservatives, Nick Moon, standing again as an Independent, and Nigel Rogers of Ukip.

Local issues are likely to dominate, particularly a village green for Studley, championed by Mrs Wright when she was a district councillor, the planned closure of the HSBC branch in the village, and traffic volumes along the A435.

The polling stations will be at The Church Hall in Sambourne and Studley Village Hall in the High Street which will be open from 7am to 10pm with the result posted on the Stratdord district council website.
