Studley skate park damage costs vandals just £25

NEWS that vandals were asked to pay just £25 towards the £277 repair bill for Studley’s skate park was met with astonishment by the village’s environment committee.

On Tuesday members heard that under a police ‘restorative justice’ scheme the youngsters had been out picking litter and had paid £25 towards the repair bill of the facility.

The vandalism, the spraying of obscene graffiti on the skate park, had resulted in the parish council receiving national attention.

This came after local Good Samaritan Craig Hunt received a police caution and a repair bill for £277 – later rescinded – after he painted over the obscenities without first receiving permission from the authority.

Speaking on the £25, Councillor Brian Dixon said: “They did so much damage, this is simply not acceptable.”

The committee heard the £25 had been set by the police.
