Studley Stitchers get creative for FIFA Women's World Cup

THE STUDLEY Stitchers have been getting creative again – this time for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The group’s latest postbox topper is dedicated to Lionesses’ goalkeeper Hannah Hampton who lives in the village and has flown out with the 23-player squad to Australia and New Zealand for the tournament.

The 22-year-old, who plays for Chelsea, is one of three goalkeepers to be chosen and the team will be hoping to add the World Cup to the Women’s Euros trophy they lifted on July 31 last year after beating Germany 2-1 in a gripping game.

Jan Platt, from the group, said: “Hannah’s mum is an avid fan of the Studley Stitchers and asked if we’d create a piece to show our support for her daughter.

“We’re all very proud of Hannah in the village and wish her the best of luck.”

The competition gets under way on Thursday, July 20, with both host nations in action in the opening two fixtures.

England’s campaign begins at 10.30am (BST) next Saturday, July 22, when Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses take on Haiti.
